23/10/05Apologies for not updating the page for so long, but things have been a little hectic. The National season kicked off with #1 of the MtnX at the New track a Homebush bay.
See you all out there somewhere 31/7/05Our first local club race in over 5 years was a great success. 25/6/05Up Coming Events
Joint Club Round
NSW State DH Championships Come and Ride Day 4/6/05Social Rides We are slowly resuming our social riding. Due to time constraints these are sometimes on limited notice. We now have a white board in the window of Insane Cycles, 162 main St (Next to Subway) to keep riders informed on what's happening so keep an eye out there and don't be shy to come along, we're there for the fun and social aspect not to race. MTBA has also gazetted the 2nd of October as "Take a kid for a mountain bike ride day". In conjunction with this we plan to hold a family day, stay tuned for further details. 4X TRACK The CTMBC committee continues to push for a 4X track to compliment the very popular State Mine DH venue. For those of you who are unaware of what a 4X track is, imagine a downwood sloping BMX track for mountain bikes. Working Week 8hr #1 8&9/01/05Results19-03-05The Working Week 8hr round was a huge success, even if the wild weather did force and early finish. 350 or so riders made it almost twice as big as the inaugrual round last year and the series promises to continue grow. An excelent day all around. The club is continuing to push for the instalation of a 4X track. Brett Barns has drawn up some initail plans and so coucil has offer support. With and luck we can get this up and running in the not to distant future. There has also been talks about having a week long IMBA trail seminar here later in the year with the goal of helping to create and XC track at our State Mine venue. 12-10-04At last a quiet month!!!
Our "away" ride to the Oaks was a great day. Hooking up with some of the guys and girls from MTB-OZ at Woodford station we decided to take a slight detour and did the St Helenas track rather then the Oaks fire trail. Luke, Matt and Bram have begun a bit of trail maintanence on the new DH track. Now the track has settled in we can iron out some of the problem areas and fix up the road gap that some idiot burnt down!!! On the 7th November we will be holding a club race at the Statemine Heritage Park and Railway. the entry fee is $25 (+$10 day license) which will get you as many shutles as you can fit in for the mornings practice runs and 2 race runs. So G up your mates come along, race the clock and show each other up. It should be a fun day. It's been another big month for the club and local riders. CTMBC would like to congradulate Bathurst rider, Hamish Elliot whose consistance placings saw him pick up 4th in the sate XC series and first in the all new Working Week endurance series. Hamish also featured well in the 12hrs of Darkness, the Sydney 24hr and the NZo 12hr. Team "Spanked", comprised of myself, Mick Casey, Paul Dowler and Peter Dykes (with subs from Paul Snow and Peter Beggs) also featured well in the Working Week Series, taking out the 4 person teams series win. Our Down-hillers have gone from strength to strength with Luke Mouatt and Matt "Skinny" Walker finishing 3rd and 4th in the Experts at the State Championships in Newcastle. Unfortunitely Luke was robbed of a podium place when organisers elevated a rider who had entered in a lesser category... to say the boys were upset would be an understatement. With a set of forks actually suited to Down-Hilling Bram Dutton was untouchable in the hard tail class. Finishing 20 seconds ahead of the field. Awesome when you consider the top 4 experts were separated by less than 1 second! The club has also be given some wraps. Also in 2005 we will once again be hosting #1 of the Working Week 8hr Series. This has proven to be a great fun series with teams of up to 4 people tag teaming to see how many laps they can do in 8hr. We have also been also been penciled in to host the State Championships in late September... More news as it come to hand that's all for now so catch you all out there somewhere Flynny26-07-04What a weekend! Round 5 of the NSW DH has been run and won at Lithgow. A big clap for all those who helped in hosting the event and congrats to all the riders. Last time CTMBC held a down hill race I wasn't even a member. In fact I purchased my bike 2 days before the race. Now I find myself president with an all new committee backing me up. So with an 8hr race under our belt (With a lot of guidance of Planty), armed with a bit of enthusiasm and a new venue we were excited to get back in the game and set about putting on the best show we could.
Our Sponsors including, Aireal Industries, MaXXis, Winning Edge Cycles of Bathurst, Precision Cycles of Carinbah, Cartridge World, Polar, the Lithgow Workmans club and Lean And Bennet motors combined to provide us with some great prizes, the State Mine Heritage Park and Railway supplied us with a fantastic venue and Good Earth helped out with track suplies. Saturday dawned foggy and warm at Lithgow, with blue sky trying desperately to break through the clouds. A week of sunny days had the track all but dried out after one of the heaviest dumpings of snow we've seen for a number years the weekend before.110 riders turned up for practice on Saturday, far more than we had expected and Robbie McNaughton quickly offered the service of an extra minibus and trailer to help with the numbers. The early feedback from riders was very positive. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the track. At round about 3kms in length the track pretty much throws everything at the riders. Luke, Skinny, Gary and Bram did a great job designing and cutting in this track Drizzle Saturday afternoon made the track very slippery. But the riders were enjoying it, getting to the bottom muddy and spent but happy. A big down poor of rain over night had us a bit worried but a track inspection and a few test rides confirmed the new track had held up far better than expected. For the most part the rain stayed away on race day and some big efforts were put in by the 130 odd riders (some very odd) who attended. Adam Smithson kicked butt in the elite men with a final time of 3.25.39. Robbie McNaughton showed he's not scared of a bit of mud with 3.29.92 and Rick Boyer picked himself up from a big off on the roll downs to post a 3.32.34 Emma McNaughton was rolling about on the ground and looking like she was having a heart attack after her race run of 4.10.05 And how about young clubman, Bram Dutton who posted 4.13.62 riding a hard tail with "V" brakes and 3" forks, that were ceasing up in practice! Luke Mouatt qualitifed 3rd fastest in the expert qualifier but a mechanical int he race run religated him to 5th A big thanks to Steve Humphries and the guys and girls from WS who helped out with timing and advice. And also our Volunteers, Matt P, Donk, Red, Alex, Dad, Scotty, Robbo, Cath, Macca, the Walkers, Fordie and his clan, Meggs the statemine personell, all club members and everyone else who pitched in to help get the track finished and put on such a good show. Full results are at Hopefully that cements CTMBC back in the racing scene. I've got a lot of cool footage that Scotty Taylor may to use in a future 26inches.com CD and keep your eye out for pictures and vids from the lads at CLICT and Black Pheonix and RFC. Catch you all out there somewhere Flynny 24-05-04April and May has seen an increase in rider membership and interest in the club. A great day was had by all and the feed back from riders was awesome. DH news A number of riders made the trip down to Thredbo for #2 of the state series. The race was called off due to bad weather but we are told Skinny did us proud in the after party. Things are progressing with organisation of our round, to be held on the 25-7-04, Financial sponsors are still needed and we are doiong our best go get local business on board.
XC news Team Spanked (Myself, Mick Casey, Peter Dykes and Paul Dowler) headed down to Penrose forest for #2 of the Working
Week Series, hosted by the SHCC. On the 22nd of may we teamed up with 2 out of towners, Jamies Davies and Gordon Garradd to form team Fully Sikk(s) M8 and headed off to the first ever Sydney 24hr race. Unfortunitely Gordon suffered a big fall on his second lap and could not continue. The rest of us peddled our way into 9th in the 6 mens category, 17th over all out of 135 teams. We now look forward to #3 of the Working week in Killingsworth and the WS 12hr. Social riding The date of our second social ride has been brought forward to the 26th of June to make way for the Woodie to Glenbrook classic. Our social ride will be a much more laid back affair suitable to most riders. All riders are welcome but should check out the Calendar and contact me for more info. 14-04-04March was a big month for the CTMBC which saw us hosting round 1 of the all new Working Week Series
A big call considering we had National team members mixing it up with first time racers. The youngest rider being 10yo Alex, riding in a 3 person team with her mum and dad. Winning Edge Cycles of Bathurst were in attendance with Glen Porter providing free mechanical assistance all day as well as throwing in a whole bunch of great prizes for the category winners. There were no surprises with Team Yeti Can, comprising of Multi- time Australian champ Paul Rowney and national team member Aiden Lefmann taking out the over all victory with an amazing 16 laps . Paul Rowney set the lap record at just over 25min Saul Britton and Rosie King took line honours in the solos with 14 and 11 laps respectively. In fact Saul astounded everyone by taking out 8th place over all!Top effort, Saul. Local riders were well represented with Winning Edge Cycles rider Hamish Elliot just managing to pip out Ian Wright for second (Both with 13 laps) in the solo mens and Micheal Botfield coming a very commendable 6th (12laps) in his first ever endurance race. <\p> In the four mans team Turtles, comprising of Grant Medlock, Geoff Merrick, Ricky Thomas and Mick Bennet, mnaged a respectable into 3rd. Full results can be found at Working Week Series and pictures of the day can be viewed and purchesed at MTBpics The CTMBC would like to thank every one who helped out on the day making it the enjoyable event that it was. Especially the Ladies from St Johns church Wallerawang, who took on the BBQ, the guys from the 4WD club, St Johns first aid attendents and the sponsors, British international, Winning Edge Cycles, Centennial coal and the guys from Springvale lodge who proved yet again that being in a union is about more than just job security, it's about belonging to a community. And of course a big thanks to Stu Plant, who not only came up with the whole concept but worked his butt off to ensure everything went to plan so the riders could concentrate on having fun. The series now moves down to the Southern Highlands for round 2 on the 18th of April. For more information and full race results visit www.workingweekseries.com Oh, did I mention my team (Spanked) took out first place in the open 4s? Just thought I'd let you know:o) We now shift focus on to getting everything up and ready for the State DH on the 25-7-04 18-02-04 It's on! The 27th of march will see CTMBC hosting round 1 of the all new Working Week Series information and race schedule Here Latest News This month saw another reshuffle in the commitee. Due to other commitments long time treasurer, Mick Smith opted to vacate his position. In order to replace him former secretary, Brett Egan moved in to the treasurers job; Gary Walker stepped up into the Secretary's job and Matt Walker as elected new Race Organiser. Confused? The commitee is now comprised of President: Craig Flynn Vice President Grant Medlock Secretary Gary Walker Treasurer Brett Egan Race Organiser Matt Walker We wish Mick all the best and thank him for his tireless efforts over the years
8hr update. Progress on the 8hr is moving along nicely. we have a couple of key sponsors on board including Winning Edge cycles, and MTBpics Focus is now on the nitty gritty logistics and preparing the track.

14-01-04 Welcome to the new look website and the first edition of CTMBC club news. While it may seem the club has been quiet, the last year has seen a lot of undercover work as we begin to rebuild the CTMBC into a racing club. The biggest news of the year, I suppose, would be the election of a new committee. Long standing committee stalwarts Grant Medlock and Geoff Merrick resigned from their positions of President and Secretary, respectively, at the AGM in July. Grant opted to stand for the less time consuming roll of Vice President while Geoff chose to retire from all official duty. The new committee thanks both for the long and tireless work within the club, wish them all the best and looks forward to their continued support and advice.
The new committee is. President: Craig Flynn Vice President Grant Medlock Secretary Bret Egan Race Organiser Gary Walker
In December 2002, the club made a submission to council out lining our stance and ideas over the Draft Plan of Management put forward for the Hassans Walls reserve. It is our understanding that the original draft proved to be that lacking that it has been thrown out and a new one commissioned. We await the publication of the new Draft with interest.
Racing. In 2003 CTMBC elected to affiliate with MTBA. This was done to allow our members to race in both the state and national rounds which were both held under MTBA this year. We also re-affiliated with CA and continue our calls for a reunified governing body. CTMBC held no races in 2003, however we have plans to relaunch our racing scene soon. In fact we narrowly missed the opportunity to host the First round of the national XC serious in November.
We have also been conducting ongoing negotiations into a new DH venue which we believe will give us a world class setting of DH racing! We now have an agreement in place and work has begun on construction of the track. Anyone wishing to help out building the track should contact me.
STOP PRESS!
The 27th of march will see CTMBC hosting round 1 of the all new Working Week 8hr Challenge. This is to be a five race series based in and around the Sydney area. Whilst it is open to solo riders it's aim is to be more a teamed based, fun event. Round 1 will be hosted at our XC track in the Lidsdale State forest at Wallerawang. See Working Week for entry form and more info
The Website Many hours of hard work were put in by young clubman Luke ("SCUD") Aguirre into the construction of this website. Hopefully it will allow us to keep everyone informed and up to date with club happenings and also act as a hub for organising social rides and get togethers.
The future: 2004 should see a return of CTMBC hosted races, traditional XC and DH as well as participation type events. Keep your eye on the website for updates.
Craig Flynn President.
